North Canton is a city located in Stark County, Ohio. This vibrant, well established community has a small town feel where you can find great local parks, restaurants, breweries and more! Walsh University is also located here as well as the commercial, Akron-Canton Airport.
North Canton’s first residents were from Germany and they began settling here in 1805. By the 1830s a small community had formed and its earliest residents named this area the Village of Berlin. During World War 1, the community changed the name to the village of North Canton because of the negative association to anything German at that time.
William H. Hoover is a well known historic figure in the area, and he manufactured the Hoover vacuum cleaner. He was generous to the community and donated money to have a community building, library and Memorial Stadium built and in 1957, the local high school was named after him.
